[ARCHIVED] Important News from Oncor

Oncor

You May See Oncor Crews in Your Yard or Alley

The City of Big Spring would like to share the following information from our partners at Oncor regarding upcoming infrastructure work in our community:

Oncor recognizes the importance of reliable service for our Big Spring customers. As part of Oncor’s System Resiliency Plan (SRP), Oncor aims to complete inspections and maintenance to our infrastructure that will strengthen their system, reduce outage risks, and ensure long-term service reliability in Big Spring.

Oncor work is underway in Big Spring and residents may see Oncor and subcontractors in their community as they begin a phased approach to comprehensive electric infrastructure inspections and improvements with the following work:

  • Pole inspections: Oncor personnel conduct on-the-ground maintenance and reliability inspections of utility poles and other equipment. Highly trained team members check equipment’s age and condition, which may include digging around the structure.

  • Vegetation management: Trees and vegetation growing too close to power lines can cause damage to Oncor infrastructure, become a potential fire hazard, and interrupt service to you and your neighbors.

Vegetation management tree trimming and clearing right-of-way areas will be performed by specialists under contract with Oncor. This will include evaluating both healthy or potentially hazardous trees located too close to lines, as well as potentially dead or diseased trees, for possible removal, according to industry standards. Work may take place in areas where power lines and facilities will soon be upgraded. Ensuring a safe work clearance between trees and energized power lines also helps protect the safety of Oncor employees and contractors.

Through SRP, Oncor is investing approximately $3 billion in the resiliency of its distribution system over the next several years. This will allow Oncor’s system to better withstand and more quickly recover from a range of extreme weather and other events. To learn more about Oncor’s SRP efforts, visit Oncor.com/resiliency.

🔎 What to Expect:

Residents may see Oncor personnel and authorized contractors working:

  • In neighborhoods

  • In alleys

  • And in some cases, within easements on private property

If you see crews in your yard or alley, please know this work is planned and authorized.
