About Us
The Big Spring Fire Department was first a volunteer department in the early 1900's. Big Spring was the first city in Texas to receive a motorized fire truck in 1909. In the early 1930's when Big Spring built City Hall, it established a part paid, part volunteer fire department. A few years, later it was a fully paid, professional fire department. A major mile stone came in 1983 when Civil Service was voted in by the citizens of Big Spring. Today, the Big Spring Fire Department serves a population of more than 30,000.
