The Big Spring Police Department offers continuous training programs in the following areas:

Applicants hired as Non-certified officers are enrolled in a sixteen (16) week course of basic instruction at the Police Academy at Midland College. Subjects vary from police procedures to law, human relations, first aid, and driving training.
If you are hired by the City of Big Spring as a Non-Certfied police officer, the City will:
- Pay for you to attend the Police Academy
- Pay you while you attend the Police Academy
- Provide you with a vehicle to get to and from the Police Academy
Non-certified Police Officers attend the Academy for seventeen (16) weeks and are then required to work with a Field Training Officer (FTO) for twenty (20) weeks.
