Police Officer Applications

Completing the online Police Officer Application for Employment is the first step in applying for the Big Spring Police Department.  Before applying for a position with the Big Spring Police Department, please be sure you meet the minimum requirements and do not meet any of the listed disqualifications.   The preliminary application can be completed online.  To complete the online application, please click here.  

Applicants will be emailed the Secondary Police Application packet containing several signature pages and a Personal History Questionnaire. The Personal History Statement must be completed in it's entirety and returned to the Human Resources office.  

The secondary packet contains eight (8) original signature pages.  The signature pages must be completed, notarized and returned to the Human Resources Department within the time frame established by the department.  Pages that require notarization must be notarized before you submit them to the Human Resources office. 

Required Documentation

Please note that you must have ALL of the required documents listed below.  The copies must be of the original document and should not be enlarged or reduced (except for copies of college degrees larger than 8½” x 11”). Small documents, like social security cards and driver’s licenses, should be centered in the middle of the page.  All documents must reflect the name and date of birth as shown on your birth certificate or marriage license. 

  • Original certified birth certificate from the Bureau of Vital Statistics. 
  • Original high school diploma, certified high school transcript or GED.
  • Certified college transcript from each college attended (sealed originals).
  • Original college degree, if applicable.
  • Original naturalization papers, if applicable.
  • Original U.S. Military DD-214 (member 4 or service 2) for all past and current active duty status, if applicable. 
  • Original U.S. Military NGB-22 for all past and current active duty status, if applicable. 
  • Original Divorce Petition and Final Divorce Decree, if applicable.
  • Valid driver's license with current address or receipt for change of address or renewal. 
  • Original social security card or receipt for duplicate request; must have correct spelling of your name, and if married, it must have your married name.
  • Original proof of auto liability insurance. Must be current and reflect your name as insured. If not, a letter/policy will be needed from insurance agent stating you are covered.
  • Photocopy of your Peace Officer Certificate of Completion from your police academy, if applicable.
  • TCOLE Peace Officer’s License or other state license, and all other training certificates, if applicable.
  • Printed copy of the completed Personal History Statement

Your application is not complete until the completed Signature Pages, Personal History Statement and ALL of the required documentation listed above has been submitted to:

The Human Resources office does not accept applications via fax.  If you are mailing your documents, it must be postmarked no later than 5 p.m. on the posted deadline. If there is not test date scheduled, please return your application as soon as possible to the Human Resources office.

Application Review


Upon receipt, your application will be reviewed to determine if you qualify to take the written examination.  You will be notified of this decision by email. It is not necessary for you to contact the City of Big Spring regarding the status of your application after you have completed and returned your application. If you are eligible to take the written examination you will be contacted.

Informing of Changes


After you have completed and submitted an application, you are required to inform the Human Resources office of any changes i.e. address, phone number, application with other departments, change in certification status, etc. Failure to do so may result in disqualification of your application.

Qualifications


Employment decisions are made solely on the basis of qualifications to perform the work of a Police Officer. Qualifications include education, training, work experience and other factors which are relevant in determining job performance.  All information provided in the Police Officer application will be verified through schools, former employers, licensing/certification agencies or other sources if applicable.
